Washington: Reminder of Upcoming Deadlines

By Bullard Law

March 1, 2018

As a reminder, the following deadlines are fast approaching:

Washington State Paid Sick Leave Notices due March 1, 2018. Washington's paid sick leave law went into effect January 1, 2018. Current employees employed before January 1, 2018 must receive notification of their rights under the new law by March 1, 2018. New employees after January 1, 2018 must receive notification upon hire. Notification must include the employee's entitlement to paid sick leave; the rate of accrual; authorized purposes for leave; and the law's anti-retaliation provisions. The Washington Department of Labor and Industries provided a standard form for employer use and other useful information here.

Employer Information Report EEO-1 due March 31, 2018. The revised EEO-1 report which was put in place by the former administration and added collection of pay and hours worked was suspended last fall. However, employers are still required to file the previously approved EEO-1 report that includes race, ethnicity and sex of workers by job category. Employers with 100 employees or more, or federal contractors with 50 employees or more and $50,000 in contracts, must submit their reports by March 31, 2018. The EEO-1 report is available on the EEOC website.
