CMS On Your Radar - Key Employment Issues to be Aware of Internationally

By CMS

February 3, 2025

Welcome to our January edition of On your radar, where we look at employment law developments taking place throughout 2025.

There is plenty to track this year, ranging from changes to working time, leave entitlements and increases in statutory minimum wage rates.

Digitalization is a clear theme and appears in a variety of ways; digital employment contracts (Germany), digital systems for safety compliance (Türkiye) and rights of workers to digital disconnection (Spain). Regulating digital platform workers is touched on by Mexico and Portugal. As our Portuguese colleagues explain in the EU the Digital Platform Directive must be adopted by Member States by 2 December 2026, so further developments in EU countries are expected.

As we see an increase in workplace investigations in different jurisdictions, it is interesting to see the impact in Belgium of the new Private Investigations Act, which introduces a modernized legal framework for private investigations, including those in a workplace context. Compliance will be essential for those with Belgian operations.
